WOMEN REFUGEES
Women and girls make up to 60-80% of the refugees who live in barbed wire camps that line the border beween Myanmar and Thailand. Caught in the cross-fire of war, many of them have suffered rape and violence and live in unrelenting poverty.
The female illiteracy rate among those fleeing from conflict zones is estimated to be as high as 70-80 percent according to a 1997 World Health Organization study
Leah’s Sisters has been involved in ministry in these camps and has built relationships over the years with dedicated, proven leaders who serve their own people.
In 2010 we are partnering with these national leaders to build a Training Resource Center for Women in the Burmese Refugee Camps along the border of Myanmar and Thailand. For thirty five years we have been involved in providing women an opportunity to become literate, learn a trade, and be spiritually fed and practically trained. We have seen the results of lives being rescued and know that nothing equals the return of this kind of investment.
If you would like to be involved in this adventure of rescuing lives and shaping futures of women and young girls, we invite you to partner with us to raise up godly, Burmese women to be leaders instead of victims.
